Speed Reading News Articles and News Content Online

Speed reading is getting to be a skill that is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity and a requirement for living in the information age. This is because the information flow from newspapers, TV, and the Internet comes at us and bombards us so quickly that we will drown if we cannot keep up. Believe it or not you may already be a speed reader and not even realize it. And luckily the mass media has helped us in our quick intake of information.

They have cut out much of the plot in the news articles and even a TV has the various segments down to three or four minutes. This is because the attention span of Americans has dwindled to such a low amount, that if they don't keep you entertained and up with the chaos and controversy of the moment they realize that you will tune out. That's all your attention span is worth these days.

Perhaps, it is for this reason that we are all forced into speed reading in real-time classes. Did you know that the average news article online is only 200 words, this is because those people who are in the online media realize that the average Internet surfer clicks in and out of a new page every 30 seconds, and if they are not done reading the article they click out anyway just have a habit.

Well, wouldn't it be nice if you could read an entire page and 30 seconds, just so you can keep up with yourself? The fact is you can with a little practice, the same practice you've been giving yourself as you been clicking in and out, page after page as you surf online.

You should read the first paragraph and the last paragraph and then scan the center of the article for tidbits of information, facts and figures, names, and locations. And then you should start at the top again and scan down to the bottom, that's about all I can tell you in this article, I've already had you for over a minute and I'm surprised you even have read this far. Please consider all this.

Recent Pedophile News Articles - A Different Perspective

"The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance. It is the illusion of knowledge."
-Stephen Hawking

Pedophiles have been making the news quite regularly lately. First it was the pedophile "instruction manual" found in Florida. Then it was the expose involving NAMBLA's substantial presence in Facebook. Now it is the uproar over Amazon.com allowing the book "A Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure" to be sold on its virtual shelves.

Yes, Pedophiles have been all over national headlines lately, and many people are hopping mad. I, for one, think it is a good thing. Let me be absolutely and perfectly clear that I think these pedophiles and pedophile organizations, and everything they stand for are absolutely horrible, detestable and repulsive. That being said, I think it is a good thing that someone was stupid enough to write a book on how to sexually abuse children and then let that book get into the hands of the police. I think it is good that NAMBLA was discovered hiding in plain sight on Facebook. I also think it is good that "A Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure" was placed for sale on Amazon.com.

Let me explain. I firmly believe that for a long time we have been under an "illusion of knowledge" when it comes to our efforts to protect children from sexual abuse. We have been deluded for so long into believing that what we do to protect children for pedophiles, predators and molesters has been working. Well, it does not. Tens of millions of people in this country who are child sexual abuse survivors, many of whom are suffering in silence, would tell you. Now, cold, hard pedophile news facts are telling you the same thing, only louder.

As is usually the case with alarming news, the natural reaction to these latest pedophile news stories is to "shoot" the wrong people. Boycott Amazon, maybe boycott Facebook (no wait, we're addicted to Facebook, and it's free so we can't do that). I certainly think Amazon should seriously reconsider what types of books it is willing to sell (for example would they sell a book teaching people step by step how to kill people and get away with it?) I also think Facebook needs to seriously reconsider the efforts it dedicates to keeping its networks safer. Wasting time organizing boycotts with the intent to do damage to these businesses though, seems to me to be a waste of time.

Instead, take these news developments for what they are. They are a wake up call and a declaration of war - a war for the minds, hearts and spirits of our children. As with any other time the enemy is so accommodating as to visibly and loudly declare war, and then lay out their plans (what do you think is contained in those books), it would behoove us to dedicate our efforts to learning everything we can about the enemy and their plans so we can effectively fight back.

The recent pedophile news stories show how sophisticated and organized pedophiles, predators and molesters are. It is a wakeup call. They are tipping their hand. We need to take this opportunity to learn everything about them and then develop and implement child sexual abuse prevention strategies that actually work. That's what I'll be doing.

Writing Articles - Free Advertising For Your Business

Want free advertising for your business? Writing articles is the answer. Unlike paid advertising, articles will keep on selling for you for years.

The more articles you write, the more prospects and customers you will attract. Since every Web site needs content, and the more relevant the content the better, articles are the ideal solution.

Whatever kind of business you run, articles can both provide content for your site, and advertising for your business.

However, even though you're convinced that you should be writing articles for advertising and promotion, you're not sure how to go about it. What will you write about?

Here are three ideas.

1. Educate Your Customers With Articles

Your ideal customer is knowledgeable and astute. He knows what he wants, and he buys your products because he's at the right stage of the buying cycle. Of course you'd prefer that all your site's visitors were ready to by, but most will not be. Unless you take the time to educate these prospects, they will buy from someone else, when they are ready.

Articles can educate your prospects, moving them forward in the buying cycle, until they buy from you.

2. Provide Easy Tutorials Via Articles

Whatever you sell, your products are enhanced when you provide tutorials.

Think about the questions which customers ask, before and after the sale. You can answer their questions by providing tutorials, via articles. Not only do tutorial articles help you to sell, they also create customer satisfaction.

3. Give Your Customers The Latest News

What's new in your industry and in your business? News articles, which focus on the latest developments, are both a way of educating your prospects and customers, and a way of gaining credibility. When you share your industry's news with your customers, you're seen as an expert in your area.

So now you have three ideas for writing articles which will not only advertise your business today, but which will go on advertising for years. What are you waiting for? Start writing - or hire someone to write for you.

How to Write News Articles for Your Local Newspaper - Four Things Freelancers Must Know

Knowing how to write a news article is one thing. How to benefit financially from that knowledge is another.

For editors, a freelance journalist can be an irritant and a savior all at once. They can be bothersome when repeatedly proposing story ideas at busy deadline times but they can also rescue a news desk that may be short of staff on any particular day.

The key to freelance journalism is to keep plugging away with quality work so that the editor will always have time for you.

To get a foot in the door of your local newspaper, a freelancer should know four things - the news, the editors, the newsmakers and the follow-ups.

Spend some time thinking about these four important facets and how you may write your articles before you even start to submit work to any publication.

1. Know the news - it may sound obvious, but you'd be amazed at the number of freelancers who have no knowledge of local issues but believe the quality of their writing gives them first right to premium column space. It doesn't matter how well you write, if your article is irrelevant to the publication's agenda, it has little chance of getting used. Take time to read the paper. Go through the issues and gain an understanding of its editorial stance and what it cares about, not what you think is important.

2. The editors - these people are the gatekeepers of your articles and they could drop your stories at a whim. You should know them, their names, positions in the company, demeanor and how they feel about certain issues, which can give you an idea on how to slant your articles for a better chance of getting published.

3. The newsmakers - it is crucial that you know who makes the news and who doesn't. Go through newspapers in your area and identify which people are the ones who are quoted and to what issues they are often sought out for. Once you know that, go through the phone directory and get their contact numbers. Your ultimate aim is to get to know these people voice-to-voice, face-to-face on a professional, and even personal, level.

4. The follow-ups - this is probably the most important knowledge you can have because this is what will brand you as a journalist. And, significantly, this is not something you can read up on but it is what you generate from your own head. If an issue crops up, arm yourself with the knowledge required from the first three points and then work on a possible follow-up story. Remember, the in-house reporters will probably be doing the same thing, so you should try to think of a different angle. This will prevent you from stepping on toes and also raise your standing in the eyes of editors.

Once you have all this in your head, call or email the editor and tell him or her your story idea. If it is topical, fresh and relevant to what the paper had in its latest issue, and it takes the story further, there is a good chance it will be used.

If so, you have your foot in the door. This does not only apply to newspapers. There are magazines and online news outlets that can also be targeted. Follow these four rules and kick-start your freelance journalism career.

Format For Writing a Newspaper Article - How You Should Write Your News Articles

Writing news articles is a very rewarding task. Aside from the fact that you'll be able to inform the masses, you'll also have the power to influence public opinion. In addition, you can also make decent money in this endeavor if your articles are really, really good.

Here's the structure you need to follow when writing your news articles:

1. Kick-start your news articles by using a very powerful, eye-catching headline. What they say is true; your headline is the most important element of your news article. As this is what will draw your readers in, ensure that it's very enticing and moving. Tell your audience what's in it for them and the gist of your content using as few powerful words as possible.

2. Lead paragraph. News article are written using the inverted pyramid technique. This is because your audience are eager to know the most essential information. So, tell them everything that they need to know on your lead paragraph. Tell them what happened, give them a list of all the persons involved, tell them when and where it happened, and how. Your readers must get a very clear picture of your chosen story by simply reading this paragraph.

3. Article body. Use your succeeding paragraphs to offer your readers with supporting details. Present them based on their importance to your main topic. The most important ones should come first. You can also insert quotes or images that are closely related to your chosen story. If you're doing a follow-up story, make sure that you also offer additional or background information.

News Writing Tips - How to Create Attention-Grabbing News Articles

Got a great story but don't know how to convert it to attention-grabbing news article? Then, follow these tips and you'll be all set:

First step is to write a compelling headline. Keep in mind that your headline is your one shot to get your target audience to pay attention to your article. Write a great one and you'll easily get these people to read on. Use a boring title and you can be assured that they'll pass all your hard work by. One technique to make your headlines very effective is to tell the main points of your chosen story using 6-12 words. Ensure that it's compelling enough to make your readers want more. It will help if you target the emotional hot buttons of your readers.
Make your first or lead paragraph equally compelling. It's not enough that you're able to get your target audience to open your articles. You need these people to read your copies until the end. I suggest that you get them on the edge of their seats and hook them as early as possible by making your lead or first paragraph as compelling as your headlines. Give your readers the summary of your story and tell them all the important information that they need to know. Be very straight forward and avoid using fluffs and fillers.
Write tight. Unlike when writing articles for the web, you really don't have much space to fill when writing for newspapers. This is the reasons why editors will always ask you to keep it shot, to the point, and sweet. This simply means giving your readers with lots of information using as few words as possible. This maybe difficult for you especially if you're used to writing essays and research papers that are generally longer. When writing your news articles, it's important that you find your focus and that you avoid beating around the bush. Cover only the essentials and throw out those information that are considered waste of your readers' time.
Use the inverted pyramid technique. It's important that you follow the acceptable structure when writing your news articles. Present the information you've gathered using inverted pyramid technique. This simply means putting the most important information in the beginning and placing the least important info or supporting details in the end. You need to do this as most people who are reading newspapers do not really read the articles in their entirety. By giving them the information they need as soon as possible, you can be assured that you'll still be able to educate them even if they just read the first paragraph. This technique will also make the job of your editors a bit easier. Should they need to cut down your articles to save some space, they will just need to remove your last paragraphs and that will not affect your story.

News Writing Basics - 2 Ways To Write Hard-Hitting Articles

News stories are articles that are time sensitive and tell readers what has happened in the world around them that might be of importance to them.

While there are numerous categories of news stories, the two main forms that you find in news outlets are - event-based news on something that has happened or a quote story based on something that was said and who said it.

When learning how to write like a journalist, a news writer would be trained to treat each of these categories differently while adhering to the foundations of news writing principles.

Events

These types of articles can be further divided into the "diary" articles or unexpected "flash" news. Diary stories are those that are expected. The journalist would have a schedule of events that could be a press conference, a launch of a product, a sporting event or other functions that were known about beforehand.

Flash news is something that is unscheduled. This could be a traffic accident, sudden resignation of a leading politician, tragedies and other events that a news desk would not have accounted for.

While it is fair say flash news is unscheduled, it is not exactly unexpected. Any newspaper, television station or online news portal would always have their staff on standby to deal with sudden events. If the flash news is a really big story, it could throw scheduled events off the front page.

Quotes

Quote stories are based solely on what a newsmaker says. The more important the person, the greater the impact of the story and the more play it would get. The articles would dwell less on what has happened than on what the person says.

It is an opportunity to get human emotion into the story by bringing out feelings and opinions rather than descriptions of what happened.

Quite often, a quote story is closely linked to an event. If a reporter is assigned to cover a fire that has broken out downtown, the editor might tell him to find a quote story.

In this case, the writer would produce two articles. One would be a straightforward news article on the fire; how it happened, the casualty count, how long it took to put it out, a handful of quotes from fire officials.

The other article could possibly be an interview with one of the survivors and would comprise mostly of quotes that evoke feelings of desperation, sadness, joy and other emotions. The writer would try to avoid too much detail about the fire in this article because it would have been adequately covered in the main news article.

The news writing principles that the journalist would employ for all kinds of articles are based on tried and test foundations that anyone can learn. It is not only journalists who can write news.
